Every business should understand the value of good forms. They can help with lead generation, customer service, and financial transactions; they also allow companies to facilitate better work dynamics. Thanks to online form builders, creating forms is easier than ever – you don’t even know how to code to do it!

You can simply drag and drop elements and then copy links to your website to add one to your page for any purpose. But with so many choices, how do you know which one is best for you? Here we break down two of the most popular form builders: POWR vs. Jotform.

What is POWR?

POWR is a plugin library with loads of free apps that people can add to their websites for free, with no coding knowledge needed. One of their best features is the POWR Form Builder, an easy-to-use tool that lets you create custom forms that you can easily embed on your website or share with others.

Benefits of the POWR Form Builder

Here are the benefits of using POWR Form Builder:

Advanced customization

With POWR Form Builder, you can build multi-page forms and add rich elements including drop-down lists, multiple choices, star ratings, file uploads, and emoji comments, among others. POWR forms also allow conditional logic, which allows you to show or hide certain questions and choices based on a user’s previous answer.

Convenient payment options

Payments can be made privately and securely on POWR forms. You can choose to collect one-time payments or subscriptions or set up donations. You can even create discount codes!

Dynamic Notifications

POWR automatically emails you whenever someone submits a form or abandons a cart, helping you stay up to date. You can also set up branded and autoresponder emails for customers who fill out your forms.

Powerful integrations

POWR Form Builder works with any website: Shopify, Squarespace, Wix, and WordPress, to name a few. It also works with various integrations; use it with MailChimp to send contacts to mailing lists, Zapier to connect to more apps, and Google Sheets to sync form responses in real time.

What is Jotform?

Jotform is a powerful and versatile form builder that allows anyone to create online forms, from signup forms to marketing surveys to order forms. It is best known for its drag-and-drop interface, which makes the process of creating forms extremely simple.

Benefits of Jotform

Here are some reasons why people love Jotform.

Stunning models

Jotform’s form designer makes it easy to create nifty forms, but if you’d rather not build them from scratch, there are over 10,000 templates to choose from. There’s one for every type of form for every industry!

Easy to use interface

Jotform is famous for its simple interface; it’s one of the easiest platforms to use for building forms, and over the years they’ve innovated in a number of ways to make the process even easier. Recently, they have developed the creation of forms on mobile, as well as simultaneous collaboration.

Useful analytics

Unlike other form builders, Jotform has built-in analytics that allow users to see how their forms are performing. You get breakdowns of conversions, demographics, device information, and more, which can help you better understand your customers, make better decisions, and build even better forms in the future.

Extensive integrations

Like POWR, Jotform also has extensive integrations, making it easy to run with any system you already rely on for your business. You can connect it to customer relationship management (CRM) systems (Salesforce, Zoho, Hubspot), email marketing services (Mailchimp, Constant Contact, GetResponse) and cloud storage services (Dropbox, Google Drive, Box).

POWR vs. Jotform: Which is better?

POWR and Jotform are two very capable form builders. Choosing the best one for you depends on the features you need, as well as the purpose you want it to serve.

Your budget also plays an important role in the decision. If you need an easy-to-customize no-code form to embed on your website at a lower cost, POWR is the best choice. If you have a bit more to spend and want access to thousands of form templates and analytics, then Jotform may be a better fit for you.

In summary

Form builders make it easy to create beautiful and functional forms without the need to code anything. POWR and Jotform are two great examples, each with their own set of benefits that could help any business improve inside and out. Choosing which one to use can be complicated, but the best choice will always be the one that best suits your budget, preferences, and needs.

Gutenberg 14.1 was released today with some much-needed improvements to the navigation block, which still seems to be on a rocky road to better usability. Contributors move features around in the navigation interface to determine where it works best.

The menu selector has been removed from the toolbar of the navigation block in favor of a placement in the sidebar of the inspector. This was done to reduce clutter in the block toolbar, which previously grouped disconnected actions, hampering the user experience. Automattic-sponsored Gutenberg contributor Carlos Bravo posted a gif showing the moved menu:

This version also adds new features like a selection icon for the navigation block menu button. It’s easy to see how quickly the interface can get cluttered when adding new features. This particular enhancement has been added to the Block Inspector under View. If this method works well, contributors may consider adding the ability to add custom icons next.

Version 14.1 also continues the effort to consolidate design tools, adding things like typography and spacing support to Avatar, Button, Avatar, Buttons, Categories List, Comments Links, Latest Posts blocks, etc. This allows for easier customization in the editor without the user having to resort to custom CSS.

Earlier this month, we posted an overview of the latest progress on a distraction-free mode for the editor, which included a brief mention of the magnified experimental view that is now available for the site editor. It emphasizes model building and composition, allowing users to move sections around without affecting internal blocks. Users can create custom models without worrying about messing up internal blocks. It’s not enabled by default but can be enabled in the “Experiments” menu of the Gutenberg plugin.

Locked models with better content locking are also available in 14.1. Features like duotone filters, block alignment, and resizing are now disabled on content-locked blocks, making it easier to prevent users from modifying the block beyond recognition.

Here are some other highlights of version 14.1:

  • Box-shadow support added to theme.json
  • Block-based template elements now available for classic themes
  • Four new filters for editing global style data in PHP
  • Smoother multi-select experience
  • Improved block transforms organization with paragraph, heading, list and quote now displayed in a separate menu sub-group

Check out the full changelog in the 14.1 release for a more detailed look at everything that’s changed. This will be the last version of Gutenberg to merge with WordPress 6.1, which is expected in November.

Need to customize a WordPress theme? Maybe you just started your personal website, but the default WordPress themes don’t show you off.

Luckily, WordPress offers a host of options to help you edit and design your website theme to your preference. We’ll show you how to get started.

Step 1: Change the default theme

Currently, a basic installation of WordPress comes with the Twenty-Twenty Two theme set as default. But as you might have noticed, the default theme doesn’t have all the bells and whistles that you would want on your website. Sure, it loads fast and delivers what’s needed, but you also want your website to look good.

Therefore, you should consider replacing the default WordPress theme with something more customizable. Some good examples are GeneratePress, Astra, OceanWP, Kadence WP, etc.

To do this, log in to your site’s WordPress dashboard and select Appearance from the left sidebar. Then go to the Themes section and click Add new to install a new theme. WordPress will present a catalog of the most popular and recent themes. You can either choose one from this list or manually type in the name of the theme you want to install in the search field.

Either way, hover over the theme entry when you see it and click Install. Then click Enable to apply the theme to the live website. Many WordPress themes look fantastic out of the box, while you may even need to customize the basic website layout yourself in some cases.

Step 2: Editing some general website variables

Once you’ve installed the theme you like, the next step is to set some basic variables that affect your entire website, such as your website name, tagline, and logo. Head to the Appearance section and click Personalize to open the WordPress customizer. Here you will find settings to modify the structure, design and typography of your website.

Note that the option labels mentioned below may be different depending on the theme you have installed, but most of the features will be present in the customizer, just under a different label. So be sure to play around with the options before making any real changes to the website.

To get started, go to Identity of the site and enter your website name and tagline. Next, create two different logos for your website: the header logo and the favicon. WordPress will specify the recommended dimensions for the favicon; you just need to create the image and upload it to the library. The rest is easy!

You can also choose to hide the website name and tagline if you upload a custom logo.

Next, move on to editing the website layout by switching to the Arrangement section. Here you can change the main container width, header alignment, navigation menu, sidebars and much more.

It is recommended that you create your header and footer menus at this point, using the menus section – so you can just focus on the design side of things later.

Step 3: Move to more advanced styles

Now that the fundamentals are out of the way, you would have a basic structure of how your website looks. Don’t worry if it still doesn’t look good. Head to the Colors and select the primary colors for your website. You can use an online website to generate color palettes for your brand.

Then go to the Typography section and add the fonts you would like to have on your website. Once you have selected a clean and readable font, proceed to Widgets. There are tons of widgets you can add to your website: search box, recent comments, related posts, gallery, custom HTML code, text display, etc.

Select where you want to display the widget, then simply add one using the WordPress widget blocking feature.

Step 4: Use custom code to customize your WordPress theme

One of the many features of WordPress is its ability to handle custom code. You can add your code on top of WordPress and it will reflect the changes without breaking anything. The only problem? You should be proficient in CSS to style HTML and PHP to modify default WordPress functionality.

To add custom CSS to your website, go to Additional CSS section inside the WordPress customizer. Here you can use classes and ids to select and style HTML elements to your liking. To get the element ID of an HTML entity, use the browser developer tools offered by Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox.

Additionally, to customize how the theme works, go to your WordPress dashboard and select Appearance from the left sidebar. Below Theme file editoryou will find a list of all theme files and an editor you can use to modify them.

You can change anything from how posts appear on your category pages to how comments are displayed and filtered by modifying PHP files.

Step 5: Create a child theme to save customizations

Your customizations will make your site beautiful. But only until the developer releases a theme update. Changes you make to your theme will be lost as soon as you update your WordPress theme. To counter this, you can create a child theme from your main WordPress theme.

A child theme inherits the style, appearance and functions of the parent theme and allows you to add your customizations to it. This way, whenever there is a new update to the main theme, you can be sure that the update will only affect the parent theme and your customizations will remain intact.

Bonus Tip: Use a Page Builder or Templates to Design Your Website

If you don’t want to spend time generating a branded color palette and customizing every aspect of your website, consider using pre-made templates. A word of warning: not all WordPress themes offer templates to their users for free, but there are plenty that do.

So, if you are short on time and need to quickly create a personal or business website, install a theme that comes with different templates for you to choose from.

This is what the demo website looks like after applying a template by GeneratePress:

Even better, you can use a page builder that lets you create custom pages using drag-and-drop tools. You can also edit and create custom headers and footers with these tools.

WordPress page builders like Elementor and Divi are a lifesaver for those who don’t have experience with front-end technologies, and just need a quick way to create beautiful WordPress-powered websites without coding.

Create a professional website with WordPress

Launching a website takes time. You need to purchase a domain name and set up hosting, and that’s after you’ve managed to find a brand name.

There are currently nearly 1.7 billion websites on the Internet, with more being added every day. Therefore, it is important to choose a unique domain name that helps your brand stand out from the crowd.

Bluehost has announced a new point-and-click solution that makes it easy for virtually anyone to create an eCommerce store with WordPress.

This is an opportunity for companies for which the complexity of the technology was a barrier to entry.

It’s also a door opener for agencies to now more easily serve smaller clients and help them grow into bigger, more successful businesses.

Bluehost highlighted the following benefits of its new e-commerce solution:

  • Easy – Set up your beautiful online store to suit your needs, even without prior website experience, and with the ability to rely on in-house experts to build it for you if needed.
  • Customizable – Flexible, powerful, high performance and suitable for beginners. The new custom Wonder theme, which comes with the product, is highly customizable to your look and feel.
  • Organized – Bluehost simplifies the WordPress experience. Enjoy the power of WordPress without having to browse over 59,000 themes and plugins. Handpicked and designed by WordPress experts, Bluehost provides all the plugins you need, not the ones you don’t.
  • Powerful – Integrated with WooCommerce capabilities and YITH plugins, two well-known brands in the WordPress arena, it’s the only product that offers this combination of capabilities.

Point, click and done

For some, 90% of the battle to start selling online is technology.

Even though one of the guiding principles of WordPress is to make the software easy to use and it only takes five minutes to install, WordPress is really just a core of what a website can be.

To complete a website, the core WordPress must be extended with plugins like WooCommerce and connected by an Application Programming Interface (API) for further functionality to occur.

What Bluehost did was take all of those parts of the upload and turn them into point-and-click steps.

Getting started starts with an onboarding process where necessary components like WooCommerce, Yoast, and block themes are installed in the background.

The user then clicks through a series of steps such as connecting a payment processor to make the website functional.

This is accomplished through a tab-based menu system.

The tabs correspond to the following steps:

  • general settings
  • Add products
  • Customize your store
  • Advanced features
  • Launch your store

Screenshot of the General Settings page

The image below shows the second step of creating a new store, which includes necessary information such as payment processor, shipping label setup, and e-commerce tax calculations.

Close-up screenshot of the point-and-click interface

All a user needs to do is click on the tabs on the left to proceed to the next step in an orderly fashion, Step 1, Step 2, Step 3.

There is also background documentation to help users who might need information.

The screenshot below shows the product data upload/import interface, with a link to the documentation below.

Creating important pages on the site is done using pre-made block template templates.

Blocks is the terminology for the non-coding visual design interface of WordPress.

Just select the type of page to design and click on the button.

Screenshot of the web page builder interface

There are also optional advanced features such as customer wishlist functionality, product filters, gift card sales, and a customizable customer account page.

Screenshot of advanced features available

Each store starts with a starting point template that can be customized to look exactly like the site owner’s wishes.

This part is probably where it might be useful to learn how to customize block themes to add background images, change fonts and colors for different sections of the web page.

This part of launching a site may be the part that some users might stop at.

But WordPress blocks are designed with intuitive, clearly labeled context menus.

Below is a screenshot of how an e-commerce site will look after the starter template has been customized.

Bluehost Ecommerce WordPress Solution

WordPress is a popular way to build an e-commerce site, but it’s difficult for a site owner to do it themselves.

This difficulty is one of the main reasons why site-building platforms with proprietary technologies are becoming increasingly popular.

What Bluehost has done is remarkable because they’ve taken a content management system that’s widely loved but not easy to point and click and made it intuitively easy for almost anyone to build an e-commerce site with advanced functionality. like the ability to sell gift cards.

According to Ed Jay, President of Newfold Digital, the parent company of Bluehost, YITH and Yoast:

“With the launch of Bluehost’s new commerce solutions, our team is addressing the needs of small businesses looking for the flexibility and power of WordPress, but want the go-live and selling experience to be simple.

The curated experience we provide strikes the perfect balance between security, reliability and functionality by taking the power of WordPress and putting it in the hands of users in an intuitive and native way for each of our clients looking to grow their business. ”

Bluehost has achieved the goal of making it easy to build advanced e-commerce websites.

This is important not only for business owners, but also for web developers and search marketing agencies, as it provides an additional way to serve small businesses that may not be ready for a bespoke solution. and help them begin their journey to greater success.

Finally, we come to my all-time favorite side hustle – blogging and content creation. I started my blog between layoffs in 2017 as a creative outlet. I used it to document the scrambles on the other side I was doing at the time and to track our journey to debt repayment and ultimately financial freedom.

This blog went on to become a two-time award-winning blog on hustle, money, and career for neurodivergent and LGBTQ+ people. It’s been featured in The New York Times, TIME, MSN, CNBC, Business Insider, and more, and helps thousands of people get started and build side hustle every month – starting with my free side hustle quiz .

I made $60,000 from my blog last year on top of my full time job. This is also what introduced me to several other remote hustles that I still use today to earn an income. Some of them are freelance writing, course creation, coaching, etc.

The blog itself is also not a source of income. He makes money in a variety of ways, including revenue from ads displayed on the blog, affiliate marketing, products I sell through the blog store, social media, and brand partnerships.

Starting and building this blog has given me a whole new set of skills and perspectives on how I work. So much so that I quit my day job last month to run my blog full time while playing with some of my favorite creative pursuits at the same time.

It literally changed my whole life, and I wouldn’t want it to be any other way.

  • Because Elementor Pro is powerful, it can be easy to break things if you’re accidentally not careful.
  • Because Elementor Pro is relatively new, there are still some bugs and missing features.

Elementor Pro is a great plugin that can greatly improve your WordPress workflow.

Is Squarespace the best website builder for small business owners?

Squarespace isn’t the only website builder. It is worth reading the differences between Wix and Squarespacefor example, because both offer similar website building services.

For the most part, though, we like Squarespace’s ease and speed of use. It has an all-in-one approach. This means that it can provide you with lots of web design options, website metrics, SEO features, SSL security, and unlimited bandwidth. It’s a great one-stop-shop for freelancers looking for a convenient solution, especially if you’re not tech-savvy.

How does Squarespace compare to WordPress?

Squarespace and WordPress have a role for anyone looking for a high quality website builder. WordPress is generally best for two very different purposes. If you just need an incredibly basic blog, this is excellent and easy to set up. It’s also great if you want to dive deeper into the web design aspect and create a unique site to promote your portfolio or online store.

However, this takes a lot more effort from small business owners, as you will need to manage your own hosting and security and remember to update regularly. You may also need to hire a developer to get things done.

Alternatively, Squarespace templates are less flexible but have great built-in features that help you figure things out faster. Squarespace also offers valuable integrations for business owners like PayPal (for accepting payments) and OpenTable (so potential customers can make reservations).

What type of website should a small business owner have?

Much depends on your plan. Do you want a website template that works as a placeholder for your business or are you looking to sell items through an online store? Other small business owners may need a place for a portfolio or a blog. Check models tab on the Squarespace website(opens in a new tab) to see what’s there.

It’s okay to experiment with a few different styles before launching your site. A portfolio may require a template that offers a large image. At the same time, creative entrepreneurs may want to focus on some of the best squarespace templates for writers. instead, along with images. Even if you are a videographer, there are many Squarespace Templates for Videos too. It’s about finding the perfect template for you that’s as individual as your business plan.

Are Squarespace templates free?

Yes! Although you have to sign up for a (paid) Squarespace account and subscribe to the website builder, all of its templates are completely free. There is no premium Squarespace template or free Squarespace templates as they are all available for everyone starting at $14 per month.

That means small business owners have plenty of room to find the perfect Squarespace template for their needs.

The only thing to watch out for is that there are two different versions of Squarespace with 7.0 and 7.1. 7.1 is the new release related to the July 2022 rollout of Smooth motor(opens in a new tab), Squarespace’s next-gen content editor for 7.1 sites. If you’re new to Squarespace, you’ll get it automatically, but older users will need to rebuild their site to upgrade. Squarespace versions 7.0 and 7.1 treat templates differently. (For example, 7.0 categorizes them into families, but 7.1 doesn’t, so it’s easier to swap models.)

Are Squarespace templates mobile-friendly?

Yes, Squarespace templates are very mobile-friendly. This only improved recently with Fluid Engine and 7.1 adding improved layout flexibility for mobile use. In addition to ensuring your customers have a good experience when viewing your website on their smartphone, the templates are also SEO optimized, so you can enjoy higher search engine rankings than if you did it manually.

Squarespace templates can also be edited or updated through your smartphone, which can be especially useful if you want to add content on the go.

No matter how you plan to set up your Squarespace website, it’s next to impossible to create an ugly one. If you need some inspiration, though, read on and check out our roundup of the best Squarespace templates for small business owners.

To note: Most of our recommendations come from Squarespace version 7.1, but we’ve added a few options from version 7.0 that continue to stand out. The models have been labeled accordingly.
