JAMMU: Intach Jammu Chapter in collaboration with the Government College of Education Jammu today launched a special series of activities for the celebration of World Heritage Week 2021.

On the first day, a heritage tour to the Birpur-Purmandal-Uttarbehni Heritage Sightseeing Tour was organized. No less than 24 students, faculty members and Intach team participated in the heritage walk.

The tour was reported by Dr GJ Singh, Director General of Surinsar-Mansar Development Authority in Sunjwan Morh Jammu in the presence of SMSahni Convener, Intach Jammu Chapter; Teacher. Shalini Rana, Convener Cultural Club; GCOE Jammu, Dr Garo Choudhary; Faculty GCOE Jammu Arvind Kotwal; Jyoti Bhati Principal FCI Jammu; Rajesh Raina Samba Tourism Officer and Anil Paba Additional Co-Organizer Udhampur Subchapter.

The students were taught about the art and architecture of ancient temples like the Rani Charki temple in Birpur, the Avimukteswar temples in Purmandal and the Uttarbehni corridor, in addition to the rare paintings that are inscribed on the walls of these temples. , materials used in the construction and interiors of these heritage temples. by Chota Kashi.

The importance of conserving and preserving the rich heritage of J&K was also emphasized. Many young volunteers, vloggers and culture enthusiasts also joined in the heritage walk and were captivated by the rich variety of temples built in the region’s Heritage Corridor.

Samba Deputy Commissioner Anuradha Gupta appreciated the efforts of the Intach team and the Government College of Education Jammu in organizing the Heritage Walk for familiarization with the rich cultural heritage of Samba District.
